The Pencil Tip
he was good at yelling obscenities at children
riding by on bicycles
crushed over by years of leaning sideways
to avoid tumbling off the edge
somewhat disillusioned
by love and by life
satisfaction came
from clanking his bones to the thigh of the rocking chair
rubbing and rolling his rigid backside
to obtain maximum comfort
he was excellent at taking pills, little bobbins
stitching up the shredded streamers
inside him
he hadnt been to a party in years
hadnt had much luck with mending ripped edges
didnt want to go back there
____
he didnt like when people talked about him
he particularly didn’t like the nods and sympathetic faces
their half-assed attempts at making him feel like a part of them
while they didn’t seem to realize that
he didn’t want to belong
bread crumbs to the birds
peoples faces appeared blurred from his spot on the porch
couldnt make out their expression
where their pupils were swinging
when their mouths moved
he liked this
and liked to think it was because
this made the world a little more mysterious, interesting
just a slice more bearable.
